Description:

This satellite YMCA is located in the Moncton North end area. This facility offers a gymnasium, an indoor walking track, a fitness center and studio, an interior splash pad, interior and exterior playgrounds, universal locker rooms, and community rooms. This project was completed in collaborations with the YMCA and the City of Moncton. It is location in a residential neighborhood; therefore, special attention to tree buffers and construction methodologies has to be taken into consideration to limit disturbance. Public consultations and rezoning meetings were required and were successful. A street expansion project was simultaneously being completed by the City of Moncton, which was required to have permanent access to the project site. Special consideration had to be taken during the design to ensure the performance of the HVAC system due to the high humidity level in the splash pad area in order to maintain acceptable humidity levels in the remaining building. The universal locker rooms and interior splash pad were a first for the entire project team; therefore research had to be done on design requirements as well as construction methodologies Teamwork and allowing the proper timelines for design, budgeting and tendering periods on this project has been the key to the success of this project.
